BAL Assessments

Bushfire Attack Level ratings to determine construction requirements in bushfire-prone areas.

Know your bushfire risk and what to build to

A Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessment establishes the level of bushfire risk your site faces and the corresponding construction standards your building must meet. It's a required step for building and development approval on bushfire-prone land.

What's involved

We assess your site against AS 3959, considering vegetation, slope, and separation distances to assign a BAL rating from BAL-LOW through to BAL-FZ (Flame Zone), along with the construction requirements that follow.

When you need it

Required for new builds, extensions, and many development applications on land mapped as bushfire-prone across QLD and NSW.
